Edward Povey, Artist
“ It isn’t that life is necessarily painful. It is that we are water-based creatures, dying in some way from the very beginning, and destined to love so magnificently that we will lose all sense of ourselves. Unthinkable losses grind down our hope whilst unreasonable compassion rebuilds it in the very jaws of ruin. I make paintings that simply show that life is larger than we had anticipated. ”
“ Above all, this is the time to believe in the moon, to gaze up at migrating flocks of origami birds clearing the sky, and to be quite sure of angels and flying pigs. Otherwise, how can we believe in discovered love and unseen gods, and in paintings that change lives! After all, science only concerns the delicate cogs of watches which later melt in the heat of our imagination, our hope and our well-founded madness. ”
